Tomorrow is the day!

It's official - Gotcha Day is tomorrow for our province. We load out suitcases at 4am (!), fly South, and should meet the babies at 4pm!

Oh yeah, and today we went to Tieneman Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, where our altitude fit-level showed. I included one picture of many that Chinese people want us to pose in...it's the first time I have been referred to as blonde (yes, I also thought they were referring to Sue).

Hua Hua Day tomorrow and Team Hua Hua has our Tshirts ready!

Beijing Blast

Ok, wireless connection or not, the speed of the upload here brings back memories of the plane ride here and I also feel a certain empathy with the inventor of the phrase 'slow boat to China'.

Our adventures continue as we flew to Beijing. We have slowly started to meet a few other families making this journey; one who is returning to China four years later to add a second little girl to their family. Realizing that this beautiful little six year old was about to become a sister - when my own sisters are one of the most important parts of my life - was the first tearjerker moment so far.

We have also continued to explore our surroundings on our own, visiting the Summer Palace today. People had warned us how cold it would be...but clearly those people have not spent time in Crested Butte. We were quite refreshed by the cool air - especially given the general state of the air quality we have experienced - and thoroughly enjoyed our hike and the views.

Other trip highlights include my ability to translate Chinese (or make something up that is incredibly more fun). How else would Sue have known the cab driver proposed to her?? And when she was frightened by the way he pumped his fist and yelled at the other drivers, I was able to reassure her with all the nice morning greetings he was giving them. We even considered going to a movie in Chinese but were concerned that my translation might disturb the other patrons.

Sue will meet her little one in only TWO days so we're doing our best to get some rest now while we can!

Team Hua Hua

WHEW. We left Crested Butte Friday but didn't arrive in Shanghai until Sunday. With wind gusts making for a near fourteen-hour flight (not the kind of record one wants to set on this trip), plus the fifteen-hour time difference, you'll have to excuse my mild confusion over what day/time it is...and with my last attempt at this post lost in cyber space and an internet connection slower than my ability to do the exchange rate in my head (seriously. have been testing this theory as waiting), you'll have to excuse the brevity of my first attempt.

Our big news is that Sue got an itinerary today that indicated she would meet her little one a day earlier than planned...will keep you POSTED (ha. pun intended) as we hear more.

Leaving for Shanghai on Friday, February 20, 2009

ABG and I (Team HuaHua) will begin our adventure this Friday. Excited does not even begin to describe what I am feeling. ABG will keep you up-dated every 3 days or so on our trip.  We will meet HuaHua on March 2nd.  More news to come...
