Beijing Blast

Ok, wireless connection or not, the speed of the upload here brings back memories of the plane ride here and I also feel a certain empathy with the inventor of the phrase 'slow boat to China'.

Our adventures continue as we flew to Beijing. We have slowly started to meet a few other families making this journey; one who is returning to China four years later to add a second little girl to their family. Realizing that this beautiful little six year old was about to become a sister - when my own sisters are one of the most important parts of my life - was the first tearjerker moment so far.

We have also continued to explore our surroundings on our own, visiting the Summer Palace today. People had warned us how cold it would be...but clearly those people have not spent time in Crested Butte. We were quite refreshed by the cool air - especially given the general state of the air quality we have experienced - and thoroughly enjoyed our hike and the views.

Other trip highlights include my ability to translate Chinese (or make something up that is incredibly more fun). How else would Sue have known the cab driver proposed to her?? And when she was frightened by the way he pumped his fist and yelled at the other drivers, I was able to reassure her with all the nice morning greetings he was giving them. We even considered going to a movie in Chinese but were concerned that my translation might disturb the other patrons.

Sue will meet her little one in only TWO days so we're doing our best to get some rest now while we can!

xoxo
